How to Get Involved

  • The Capital Appeals Project (CAP) accepts applications for pre-law and law student interns and externs for semester and summer positions. Read on for more information.
  • If you are not a law student, but interested in volunteering to support defendants on death row, contact the Promise of Justice Initiative.
  • If you are a professional interested in employment at the Capital Appeals Project, see open positions to join the team.

Internships

International Interns

The Capital Appeals Project welcomes interns from abroad. Volunteer work by foreign nationals is arranged through Reprieve or Amicus.

Apply for an Internship

To apply, send a cover letter, resume, a writing sample and three references to CAPvolunteer@defendla.org. Applications are accepted and processed on a rolling basis.

If you are interested in applying for both the CAP and PJI internship, please indicate so on your application.

Application Deadlines:

Fall Externships

  • Hours: Can be full or part-time
  • Typical dates: September through December
  • Application Deadline (preferred): July 1st

Spring Externship

  • Hours: Can be full or part-time
  • Typical dates: January through April
  • Application Deadline (preferred): November 1st

Summer Internship

  • Hours: Can be full or part-time
  • Typical dates: May through August (10-14 weeks)
  • Application Deadline (preferred): February 1st
